The Apex clan is back again with an upgraded flagship and two brand-new iterations of its latest iron line – all of which feature Callaway’s proprietary Flash Face Cup technology. Geared to the mid-to-high handicapper, with plenty of room for the scratch player, the new Apex line ends its two-year innovation quest with a nice upgrade and is certainly worth looking at the next time you’re getting fit at your nearest Cool Clubs location.
Here’s the breakdown of the three models:
CALLAWAY Apex
Once again, distance is the name of the game with Callaway’s new flagship iron – counting on increased yardage out of the Flash Face Cup. And while distance is the decisive factor of the new design, Callaway insists forgiveness, spin consistency and launch are equally important. We have tungsten to thank for that which was increased five-fold over the 2019 Apex.
On a scale working down from the nine-iron at 64 grams of the stuff to 34 grams in the three and four Callaway’s-irons, Callaway kept the weight low and deep in the long irons and moved the weight up on shorter irons to keep spin where players want it. There’s also the matter of the larger sweet spot from the Flash Face which helps average players keep performance despite hitting low on the face.
CALLAWAY Apex Pro
Touted as completely new from the word go, the Apex Pro irons from Callaway brings in AI design once again with a smaller head than the standard Apex, weaker lofts, greater stiffness in the back of the head and a whole lot more tungsten in the longer irons.
Compared to the standard Apex, the Apex Pro is aimed at lower handicaps with less offset and thinner top lines and puts a premium on spin and launch-angle consistency.
CALLAWAY Apex DCB
Looking for more of a game-improvement iron? Look no further. The Callaway Apex DCB – short for Deep Cavity Back – is for players who are begging for a club loaded with cavity back features. The DCB still features the Flash Face Cup and a ton of tungsten, but also has a wider sole, a longer blade length and more generous lofts designed to launch the ball easily.
To summarize some of the features and the advantages of Callaway’s Apex Iron line:
- The First Apex Iron Designed With A.I.
Callaway’s A.I.-designed Flash Face Cup is in a forged Apex Iron for the first time ever. The unique A.I. architecture in each iron creates high ball speeds and increased spin robustness across the face. They’re engineered for impressive distance and pinpoint control. - Consistent Launch and Increased Forgiveness
For the first time, they’ve implemented Callaway’s Tungsten Energy Core into an Apex Iron. With 5x the tungsten of Apex 19, Callaway can precisely position the Center of Gravity to promote outstanding launch throughout the set, and more forgiveness on off-center shots. - Forged Blade Feel In A Players Distance Iron
Apex Irons are renowned for their pure feel, and Apex 21 is no different. The body of the iron is 100% forged from a 1025 mild carbon steel body, and Callaway’s patented urethane microspheres deliver exceptional sound and feel at impact. The improved shaping also helps to enhance feel through the turf.
