Cool Clubs | First Take
Cool Clubs Master Fitters have been working with the new TaylorMade SIM2 drivers over the last week. Here are a few takeaways from the Scottsdale HQ crew after testing the new SIM2 line in Cool Clubs’ fitting bays.
First Impressions
TaylorMade has focused on good-looking products for years now and the SIM2 does not disappoint. The driver head has a strong contrast between the carbon fiber and white which looks really nice. The weight of the club feels amazing and provides a totally connected feel throughout the golf swing. And the Twist Face continues to subtly bring shots back into the center of the fairway. At the end of the day, if you don’t make a good product, you’re out of business. And TaylorMade makes a good product. We like the look of it, the sound, the feel and – of course – the performance of the club.
Sharp New Look, Same TM Sound
TaylorMade changed the color on the top to a darker shade of blue and the contrast is incredible. The added carbon fiber produces a modern and contemporary look which a lot of our customers really enjoy. The sound is definitely familiar for those who played the original SIM model and the ball seems to really pop off the face. Our customers hit it and they just say “whoa!”
Distance and Forgivability
Year after year, manufacturers like TaylorMade continue to find new ways to add ball speed and the SIM2 continues the trend. They’re searching for new metals and new weight distributions that add distance and, combined with the right shaft for the right player, the SIM2 picks up incremental distance from last year’s first iteration of the SIM. As for forgivability, the dispersion is a little tighter after testing and the twist face continues to leave players pleasantly surprised after mishits.
In Play This Week
Some of the world’s best players had the TaylorMade SIM2 in the bag starting the week of January 20th. Young PGA TOUR star Matthew Wolff put it in the bag last week at the Farmers Insurance Open. This week, fan favorite Rory McIlroy will tee it up for the first time at TPC Scottsdale for the Waste Management Phoenix Open with the SIM2 in his bag.
