Cool Clubs | First Take
First impressions of the PXG GEN3 irons here at Cool Clubs suggest the new lines are very forgiving. Keeping in line with standard PXG claims, they feel soft on mis-hits, even softer on a center strikes. The irons felt very hot and jumped off the clubface at impact. Ball speed is definitely going to compete with other top models in its class. Biggest takeaway is the soft forgiveness and the fast ball speeds, definitely an improvement over PXG’s GEN2 line.
PXG’s new GEN3 irons come in three iterations. The TOUR Performance line (0311 T) provides workability and distance control for highly skilled players. The Players iron (0311 P) combines a balance of playability and forgiveness which should appeal to a wide range of golfers and the Xtreme Performance (0311 XP) maxes out the sweet spot for game improvement.
Take a look at some of the features from PXG’s newest generation of irons.
Roughly the thickness of a penny, the clubface of the GEN3 iron line saves weight in the which allows more mass to be positioned where it will help optimize launch conditions and moment of inertia (MOI).
Perimeter Weighted Technology
PXG elected to remove a significant amount of mass from the center of the hollow-bodied club through a CNC milling process, while high-density, tungsten alloy weights positioned around the perimeter of the club head add mass to help increase MOI and create better launch conditions.
Utilizing five unique sets of tooling in order to form the body for each part of the club, the GEN3 Irons are forged from S25C soft carbon steel with a tight grain structure which resonate different than cast materials. PXG suggests this prolongs the life of the clubhead and enhances the impact experience.
TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) is a low-density and vibration dampening material used in the GEN3 iron line which adds structural stability to the clubface and is said to produce a more efficient energy transfer.
