Cool Clubs | First Take
TaylorMade’s new SIM line looks good. What is SIM? Shape in Motion. The ‘chalk’ paint is something that will appeal to a lot of people, especially the matte crown and appears, at first glance, to look like a better M5/M6. The SIM looks smaller but still has a ‘big’ face. SIM MAX looks big both face and head to make it ultra-appealing for a game improvement driver.
Sound is solid as well, providing a classic ‘muted’ TaylorMade sound that they have been known for the last couple of years. There is certainly some truth to twist face, even if it is marginal. Both drivers (SIM and SIM MAX) were both very forgiving with ball speed still high on mishits. The ball speeds were slightly higher on both SIM and SIM max then previous drivers from TaylorMade. Since the SIM now has only one weight track, they saved some weight to allow for a lighter swing weight and possibly help players swing faster.
Available in three different iterations, TaylorMade’s new SIM Driver line was built out of self-proclaimed obsession with on-course performance. Check out some of the new features of the SIM, SIM MAX and SIM MAX D from TaylorMade.
New Asymmetric Shape
The TaylorMade SIM Driver line features an asymmetric sole design and an extreme-rear-placed Inertia Generator, increasing aerodynamics and speed compared to the earlier M5 Driver. The new shape is said to reduce drag through the downswing to improve both speed and forgiveness compared to previous models.
Speed Injected Twist Face
TaylorMade upped their game for the new SIM line, combining two elements from previous models – their Twist Face technology from the M3 and M4 lines and the Speed Injecting tech from the M5 and M6. The result is maximum legal ball speed with reduced sidespin to deliver straighter shots on off-center strikes.
Matching Equipment to Personality
The new SIM line makes it easy to match your driver to your game. Sliding weight technology – available only in the SIM driver – lets players adjust trajectory and ball-flight preferences up to +/- 20 yards of draw-fade bias, while the Loft Sleeve technology – available in all models – provides up to +/- 2-degree loft change. And drivers in the SIM line have progressively larger face sizes (SIM Max D having the largest) which allows players of all abilities to match their game.
